Wm. Knabe Established in 1837

Knabe is among the oldest and most highly respected names in the history of the American piano industry.  Knabe was the official piano of New York's Metropolitan Opera for 60 years.  (Steinway & Sons now holds that distinction.) The quality of these hand made "Original Knabe" instruments made in Boston or New York is rated among the best pianos ever made.  At the time this piano was produced, comparable quality could be found in just a few of the hundreds of brand names on pianos produced in the United States.  Knabe is a brand name we look for, and are always proud & happy to have in our inventory.  In later years, Knabe pianos were manufactured by the Mason & Hamlin Corporation,  who discontinued their production in 1994.

Description:

This piano has a history typical of the best pianos.  It was purchased new when the children were ready for piano lessons, and now that the kids are grown & gone, Mom is selling the family home & downsizing.  This instrument was well maintained, and comes to us in extremely good condition.

You can't buy a top quality console piano like this one in today's new piano marketplace.  Both Steinway and Mason & Hamlin no longer produce them, because it is so expensive to make fine quality pianos like this today that customers would not be willing to pay the high price that would be necessary to market consoles.  The suggested retail price for a good American made console today is over $8000, and the 2 top quality American piano makers (Steinway and Mason & Hamlin) no longer produce them.
